URDU IN TWENTY DAYS
A Bengali Speaker’s Route to Conversational Urdu
Built for conversation, not examination
Target: functional daily speech in Faisalabad before departure
| PARAMETER | SETTING |
|---|---|
| Base language | Bengali |
| Script | Nastaliq + Roman transliteration |
| Daily load | Flexible — modular three-layer days |
| Total commitment | Approx. 20 hours over 20 days |
| Destination | University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Punjab |
| Outcome | A1 survival conversation — a foothold, not fluency |
Each day is built in three layers. On a heavy work day, do the core alone and mark the day complete.
CORE ~25 min · compulsory
Sound drill, new frames, then speak aloud. Recording yourself is part of this, not an optional extra.
EXTEND +20 min · protect this when you can
Listening and shadowing. This is the layer that closes the comprehension gap — your weakest skill throughout.
OVERFLOW +15 min · pure bonus
Nastaliq reading. Dropping it entirely still delivers the conversational goal.
THE MISSED-DAY RULE Never skip forward to catch up. Do core-only and stay on sequence. The plan is built to absorb two or three half-days without breaking.
Every vocabulary item is presented up to four ways. The fourth column is what makes this a twenty-day plan rather than a sixty-day one — it is the reason a Bengali speaker can move this fast.

A NOTE ON FONTS The Urdu in this document renders in whatever Arabic-script font your system supplies. For proper Nastaliq — the slanted, cascading style used in Pakistan — install a free font such as Jameel Noori Nastaleeq or Noto Nastaliq Urdu, then select the document text and apply it. Everything remains readable either way.
