PHV SERU Assessment — Complete Preparation

Preparation for the Safety, Equality and Regulatory Understanding assessment.

SERU tests four things: whether you can keep passengers safe, whether you understand your duties under equality law, whether you know the licensing rules that govern private hire work, and whether you can read and write English to the required standard.

This course covers all four. Safeguarding — recognising the signs, the duty not to investigate or confront, how to handle a disclosure, and when to call the police. Equality — the protected characteristics, the four forms of discrimination, reasonable adjustments, and the assistance dog rules that are among the most prosecuted breaches in the sector. Regulatory duties — pre-booking, display and insurance requirements, what must be reported and how quickly, data protection, lost property, fares, and complaints. Passenger and road safety — daily checks, safe set-down, intoxicated and unwell passengers, incidents, and conflict. And a full module on the English reading and writing element, with a worked comprehension passage and a model incident report.

The most useful principle in this course

Almost every safety and equality question has an answer that protects the passenger — particularly a vulnerable one. Options involving reporting, seeking help, and giving the passenger more time or more assistance are the examined answers.
