About this course

Beginner Spanish that you can actually use, in six weeks.

Spanish is the most learnable major language for an English speaker, and this course is built to exploit that. It is phonetic — learn the rules once and you can read any word aloud correctly. The grammar is regular. And thousands of words are near-identical to English already.

So the first module gets pronunciation genuinely right, including the two stress rules and the written accent system that makes Spanish stress completely predictable. Then the grammar that matters at this level: gender and agreement, ser versus estar, the three verb families, questions and negation. Then the language of real situations — greetings and the /usted choice, introductions, requests and politeness, numbers and money and time, family, food and restaurants, travel, directions, and emergencies. The final module adds the past tense.

What makes this course different

It teaches both Spain and Latin America. The vosotros/ustedes split, the c and z pronunciation, and the vocabulary differences are explained wherever they matter, so the course serves you in either place.

It covers the Arabic layer in Spanish — around four thousand words entered Spanish from Arabic, and aceite, azúcar, almohada, álgebra, and ojalá are still in daily use. For a student who knows Arabic, that is free vocabulary.

It is honest about ser and estar. They take months, the mistakes never cause misunderstanding, and the course says so rather than pretending a rule will fix it in a week.

How it is organised

Six modules: getting started, sounds and spelling, first grammar, first conversations, everyday Spanish, and the past tense with reading practice. Five review quizzes, and two free preview lessons.
