Hindi has a reputation for being hard that it does not entirely deserve. The script looks intimidating and then turns out to be almost perfectly phonetic — unlike English, once you know the letters you can read any word correctly on sight. The effort is front-loaded, and then it is over.

This course spends its first module on exactly that: the vowels and their attached signs, the consonants in the traditional order that teaches the sound system along with the letters, then conjuncts and the disappearing schwa that makes राम read as raam. By the end of it you are reading.

The rest is what you can do with it — pronouns and the three politeness levels English lost centuries ago, verb-final word order, postpositions, and the present tense with one pattern that works for every verb, then greetings, introductions, questions, numbers, family, food and bargaining, time and directions.

What makes this course different

It drills the retroflex/dental distinction. टाल and ताल are different words and English t sits between them. Most courses mention this once; this one builds a lesson around it.

It is honest about grammatical gender. Hindi marks it on adjectives and verbs as well as nouns, it takes months rather than weeks, and it almost never causes misunderstanding. The course says so instead of pretending otherwise.

It explains the Hindi–Urdu relationship properly. They are the same spoken language with two scripts and two formal vocabularies. Knowing that tells you exactly what transfers if you study one after the other.
