Beginner English that works in real situations — sounds and stress, the grammar you actually need, and the phrases for greetings, shopping, restaurants, travel, and asking for help.
English 6 weeks · self-paced Certificate of completion
Beginner English for people who need to use it, not pass an exam.
Most English courses start with grammar tables. This one starts with the two things that decide whether a stranger understands you: word stress and sentence rhythm. A learner with a strong accent and correct stress is understood everywhere; a learner with a light accent and the stress in the wrong place often is not. That is where the first module goes.
After that comes the grammar you genuinely need at this level — am/is/are, articles, plurals, the present simple with its awkward third-person -s, and the past simple — and then the language of real situations: greetings and small talk, introducing yourself, asking questions, requests and politeness, numbers and money and time, family and jobs, food and shopping and restaurants, directions and travel and emergencies.
It is honest about what matters. Article mistakes almost never cause misunderstanding; dropped word endings and misplaced stress do. The course spends its effort accordingly.
It teaches politeness as grammar. In English, Give me a coffee and Could I have a coffee, please? differ by structure, not vocabulary. Learners who miss this sound rude without ever knowing why.
It assumes you will speak imperfectly. A whole lesson is built around the phrases that keep a conversation alive when you have not understood — the difference between a beginner who improves and one who stops.
Six modules: getting started, sounds and spelling, first grammar, first conversations, everyday English, and the past tense with reading practice. Five review quizzes, and two free preview lessons.
