About this course

Everything a workplace fire safety exam tests — and what to actually do when the alarm sounds.

Fire safety training is a legal requirement for employers almost everywhere, and the syllabus is consistent because the physics is. This course covers it in full: how fire starts, behaves, and spreads; the classes of fire and the extinguisher for each; prevention, detection, and signage; evacuation procedure including assisting people who cannot leave unaided; the five steps of a fire risk assessment; and the duties of a fire warden.

Every module ends with exam-style questions, and the final module covers the technique that costs candidates marks — particularly the “which is the FIRST action” questions, where the answer is almost always to raise the alarm rather than to fight the fire.

What this course does well

It is clear about when not to fight a fire. Six conditions must all be true before you pick up an extinguisher, and the course lists them plainly. Property is replaceable.

It teaches extinguisher selection through the fire triangle, so the choices make sense rather than needing to be memorised — and it is explicit about the two combinations that injure people: water on electricity, and water on burning oil.

It covers evacuation for everyone. PEEPs, refuge areas, evacuation chairs, and the rule that untrained carrying injures both people.

Certification

This course prepares you for a fire safety exam and for the practical duties of a fire warden. Fire safety law differs by country — the UK’s Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and its equivalents elsewhere set different duties, inspection regimes, and certification requirements. The physics and procedures here are universal; check your national and local fire authority for the qualification your role requires.
